Amazonas is the largest garbage generator in the North of the country

The State does not yet have a correct disposal. In 61 municipalities in the state 92% of the final destination of waste goes to open dumps



Manaus - The State of Amazonas is one of the largest generators of solid urban waste (MSW) in the North region, being the largest generator in the region, in this regard, with an average 1.14 kg / inhabitant / day exceeding the national average of 0.95 kg / inhabitant / day. The data are from the Geodiversity, Water Resources, Mines, Gas, Energy and Sanitation Commission of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas (Aleam).

This reality is present in all municipalities in Amazonas and is considered worrying. In 61 municipalities in the state 92% of the final destination of waste goes to open-air dumps.

The Commission chaired by state deputy Sinésio Campos (PT) will carry out studies that will produce information on the reality of solid waste in the state, to promote measures on the subject.

For deputy Sinésio who is concerned with the matter, the correct destination of solid waste, through proper management, has become one of the most important challenges. “The data confirm that Amazonas is one of the largest generators of solid urban waste and does not yet have a correct and organized destination. This Special Commission aims at discussing and forwarding viable and effective alternatives for the proper destination of solid waste ", said the deputy.
